Irish stars voice animated film of Roddy Doyle book

Irish stars including Sharon Horgan and Brendan Gleeson are among the voice cast for A Greyhound of a Girl, an animated film adaptation of the Roddy Doyle book of the same name.

A Greyhound of a Girl follows "four generations of women as they take a glorious and life-affirming journey together".

"When unexpected news leads them to embark on a trip, they gain the opportunity to reconnect and learn more about each other," the synopsis continues.

"Eleven-year-old Mary has an insatiable passion for cooking and dreams of becoming a great chef. Her grandmother, Emer, with whom she has a very special bond, encourages her to make this dream come true. But every path has its obstacles, and facing them turns into quite an adventure."

The voice cast of the film also includes Charlene McKenna, Rosaleen Linehan, Mia O'Connor, and Paul Tylak.

Directed by Italian filmmaker Enzo D'Alò, A Greyhound of a Girl has already screened at numerous festivals around the world and was made with the support of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen, and RTÉ, among others. The Dublin and Belfast-based Jam Media are among the production companies.

A Greyhound of a Girl opens in Irish cinemas on Friday 28 June.
