Top Boy and Happy Valley win most BAFTA TV awards

Top Boy and Happy Valley won the most prizes at the Bafta TV awards in London, Succession fans delighted in Matthew Macfadyen being feted, Graham Norton missed out on a BAFTA for his talk show but his Eurovision 2023 coverage won an award and Cork's Máiréad Tyers up for best comedy actress for Disney + Extraordinary lost to Gbemisola Ikumelo for Black Ops.

Top Boy, a series written by Northern Irish writer Ronan Bennett, first aired on Channel 4 from 2011 to 2013 and Netflix got on board in 2019. It evolved from its plot of the main characters selling drugs to make a quick buck in a Hackney Council estate, to expanding the enterprise internationally and well known actors ask to be in the show.

Happy Valley is a BBC production around since 2015, set and filmed in the Calder Valley, West Yorkshire. Starring Sarah Lancashire, James Norton and Siobhan Finneran, it was written and created by Sally Wainwright a 'who dunnit' with characters that people are very invested in.
