Galway folk singer songwriter Rachel Goode has released her new cover version of Keg of Brandy. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

The traditional Irish ballad was written by Robbie O'Connell and tells the story of a man who is a heavy drinker, wanderer, and in love with a lady called Molly from County Clare.

Rachel as a finalist in Ireland's 2022 Eurosong competition on The Late Late Show and has performed in various venues around the country such as The Helix, The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, and The National Opera House.

The Ballinasloe native has a Bachelor of Music degree from DIT, a Master of Arts in Performance from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and a Masters in Music Education from the University of Limerick.

In 2009, she represented the West of Ireland on the first series The All-Ireland Talent Show of and was a finalist in the 2022 series of Glor Tire on TG4.

Keg of Brandy is the second single from her upcoming debut folk album.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I’m a singer and performer and have been doing so since I was a child. I have a huge love of all things fashion and beauty and do some micro influencing on my social media. I’m expecting my first baby in May.

How would you describe your music?

My music is folk with a few different influences including Irish, Americana, blues and soul. Anything I sing, I have to really feel, as for me it’s all about singing with passion and really feeling and understanding your lyrics.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Maura O’Connell, Eva Cassidy and Patsy Cline would be huge inspirations of mine. They all have really soulful voices and I just feel I relate to their style of music and their type of singing. They all sing with huge passion.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Spice Girls in Wembley Arena London, I was only seven and my dad had me on his shoulder for the whole gig. I was a huge Baby Spice fan!

What was the first record you ever bought?

The Spice Girls, We are talking very young here!!

Whats your favourite song right now?

Anything by Picture This, I’m a big fan!

Favourite lyric of all time?

"And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me" the last line of Danny Boy, one of my favourite songs and I used to sing it with my grandad.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Celine Dion’s version of Eric Carmen’s All By Myself. What a key change!
