Tell us three things about yourself
John's (drums) favourite film is The Pelican Brief (1993). Mike (guitar) falls asleep listening to field recordings of geese. Ben (guitar) and Andy (bass) have never met.
How would you describe your music?
Human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we beat out tunes to make the bears dance, when we would like to move the stars to pity. Blue Whale is the kettle. The bears are twelve balding men. The stars are seventy-five thousand pounds in cash.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Battles, Captain Beefheart, Women, Mohammad Green.
What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?
First gig: Mohammad Green.
First Record: La Tierra Furibunda - Geese Recordings 1979-1983 by Mohammad Green. (Blue Whale - crazy name, crazy guys! - Ed).
What’s your favourite song right now?
Feliz Navidad by José Feliciano. (Fun fact about this song, the title actually means 'Happy Christmas’ in Spanish!).
Favourite lyric of all time?
"I don’t want to see a ghost/It’s a sight that I fear most/I’d rather have a piece of toast/And watch the evening news." - Leonard Cohen (that's actually Des'ree, pop kids! - Ed).
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Gander Awakes by Mohammad Green (ok, that's enough geese - Ed).
Where can people find your music/more information?
Here.
