Melrose Place stars Laura Leighton, Heather Locklear, and Daphne Zuniga are planning to reunite for a reboot of the TV favourite.

US entertainment trade publication Deadline, which first reported the news, says the reboot is "in development at CBS Studios and is currently being shopped to networks and streamers".

Laura Leighton

Fans have been told what to expect if Leighton, Locklear, and Zuniga reprise their respective roles as Sydney Andrews, Amanda Woodward, and Jo Reynolds.

"In the new instalment, when one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the OG residents of Melrose Place gather to honour the deceased," says Deadline.

Heather Locklear

"But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets... throwing our characters into chaotic drama that's reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective."

Deadline says more original cast members are expected to reprise their roles in the reboot "if it comes to fruition".

Daphne Zuniga

The reboot is written by Lauren Gussis, the creator and executive producer of the Netflix/CBS Studios series Insatiable. Leighton and Zuniga are on board to be executive producers on the new show alongside Gussis.

A Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off, the Darren Star-created Melrose Place originally ran from 1992 to 1999 and then returned for a one-season revival in 2009.
