Pick of the Day

Race Across the World, 9.00pm, BBC One

It's season 4 of this entertaining, addictive series that’s a blend of game show, travel show and reality/endurance show.

Five teams of two battle it out in a breathtaking 15,000-kilometre race across eastern Asia through some of the world’s most populous regions and some of its most unexplored.

The teams will race from northernmost Japan, crossing six seas and eight borders, skirting the path of the volcanic ring of fire – the most geologically unstable region on the planet – to reach the finish line in Lombok, an idyllic Indonesian island paradise.

It’s a journey that will see them race through multiple countries, including experiencing Japan's clash of ancient traditions with the ultra-modern, unexpected South Korea.

They will come face to face with chaotic and colourful Vietnam and brave the unexplored Indonesian archipelago – the largest Muslim nation in the world.

Leaving behind their smartphones, internet access and bank cards, they will be armed only with the cash equivalent of the airfare from Sapporo to Lombok.

The race begins in Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido, the most northerly of the four main islands of Japan.

This feelgood show opens its 13th season with a pair of tiny cowboy boots, treasured by the family of Elton John's former drummer, while queen of the invisible fix Kirsten faces her biggest challenge yet, as she must painstakingly piece together a shattered vintage glass lamp.

First through the barn doors is a pair of tiny but treasured cowboy boots.

Belonging to Diane Wynell-Sutherland, the boots were bought for her son by her brother Roger Pope, a talented drummer and session musician.

Diane shares the remarkable story of her brother's musical journey and his close bond with her son, from Roger's early days in local bands to his collaborations with superstars like Elton John and other iconic musicians in the USA, where the boots were bought.

Tragically, Roger battled throat cancer before passing away in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of music and love.

The boots serve as a tangible reminder of Roger's affection for his nephew and his enduring presence in Diane's life.

The Warhol Effect, 9.00pm, Sky Arts

This documentary film focuses on the late work and legacy of Andy Warhol.

Interviewing contemporary artists, along with friends and colleagues, the film will reveal a new perspective on the world's most famous artist, and why he is so relevant today.

Andy Warhol is uniquely and inexorably woven through Western culture, and still influences contemporary artists like no other.

Yet the work of the 1970's and 1980's is rarely shown or discussed compared to his more famous 1960's Pop Art.

But as the art world comes around to this period they offer a new insight into the process and life of Andy Warhol - and his anti-artist public alter-ego.

Some of these 'late' pieces may even be the works that resonate long after everyone has forgotten Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley or Campbell's Soup.

We’re now up to season 20 of this franchise leader, following the work of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service that investigates cases involving the US Navy and Marine Corps.

She shares her infectious enthusiasm for DIY and her clever money-saving design tips, helping families salvage their half-built home without breaking the bank.

Stacey also upscales her own building skills, mastering everything from plumbing to micro-cementing, and puts all this building knowledge into practice at her own family home, Pickle Cottage.
