The darkly comic, six-episode series, starring Academy Award winner Kate Winslet, tells the story of life within the walls of a modern authoritarian regime as it unravels.

After not leaving the palace for quite some time, Chancellor Elena Vernham (Winslet) becomes increasingly paranoid and unstable and turns to a volatile soldier, Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), as an unlikely confidant.

As Zubak’s influence over the chancellor grows, Elena’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in the palace and the country fracturing around her.

The show, written by Succession creator Will Tracy, also stars Hugh Grant as the leader of the opposition..

This four-part series follows the journeys of three football clubs competing in the top tier of women's football in Ireland throughout the 2023 season.

Narrated by Peter Coonan, it ocuses on the top two women's teams in the country - Peamount United and Shelbourne. Plus, Galway United engage in their own battle to prove their doubters wrong.

Meet the Roman Emperor with Mary Beard, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Classicist Mary Beard finds out what it was like to be an emperor of Rome, revealing the hidden world of the Roman imperial court and lifestyle.

She deciphers rare, surviving instructions and imperial era artefacts and explores epic locations to gain insights into their homes, entourage, sex lives and health.

She also considers her subjects' ruthless use of power and how it was matched only by their greatest fear - that it could be snatched away at any moment by the people closest to them.

Sheepdog Showdown, 8.00pm, BBC One

Clare Balding narrates the action at the triannual World Sheepdog Trials, hosted in Northern Ireland for the first time at a rural country estate outside Dromore, in county Down.

The first episode features the first day of the qualifying rounds. With just 42 places up for grabs in the semi-final, everyone's prepared to face stiff competition.

The Sky at Night, 9.30pm, BBC Four

The long-running astronomy series is back for a brand-new run.

This month it is delving into Nasa’s OSIRIS-REx mission, which last year brought back a sample from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu.

The team are finding out what it takes to analyse the tiny pieces of space rock, what they can tell us about how Earth became the planet it is today and may even tell us about the origins of life.

Defiance: Fighting the Far Right, 10.00pm, Channel 4

Documentary exploring how Britain's Asian community has stood against far-right violence and racist murders, from the Southall protests to the battle for Brick Lane.

The first episode starts in 1976, as attitudes against immigration across the UK reach boiling point.

The National Front threaten to become a political force, while the brutal murder of Altab Ali on election day sends shockwaves through nearby Brick Lane's Bengali community

Dragged Across Concrete, 9.30pm, TG4

If you’ve got three hours to spare, this languid and lawless crime drama, starring Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn as a pair of unruly cops, is well worth watching.

Brett and Anthony get suspended from the force when a video of their strong-arm tactics is leaked.

Low on cash and with no other options, they delve into the criminal underworld to get their proper compensation but find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows.

Curb Your Enthusiasm, 9.00pm, Sky Comedy

The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning HBO Original comedy, starring Larry David as Larry David, reaches its conclusion with this special hour-long series finale.

No Lesson Learned is the episode’s title, so it’s safe to assume Larry’s bowing out as he came in. And none the wiser.

If you fancy something similar, David's previous show, Seinfeld, is available on Netflix.

University Challenge, 8.30pm, BBC Two
