More Abba at the BBC, 8.35pm, BBC Two

This is a curtain-raiser to an evening of programmes marking the 50th anniversary of Abba's Eurovision Song Contest victory in Brighton.

This compilation features BBC appearances by the Swedish superstars on Top of the Pops, Wogan, The Late, Late Breakfast Show and The Mike Yarwood Christmas Show.

The programme also features a rare Top of the Pops performance of the song So Long from 1974, missing from the BBC archive and thought to be lost until a fan unearthed a home recording.

Followed at 9.35pm by When Abba Came to Britain, looking at the time Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Benny and Bjorn spent in Britain from 1974 to 1982 and examining their groundbreaking legacy.

Abba at the BBC follows at 10.35pm. It’s a collection of memorable performances by the group, including their Top of the Pops debut, archive interviews and footage featuring various hits.

Then at 11.35pm there’s Abba in Switzerland, the pop group's first European TV special, recorded on location in the Swiss Alps in 1979.

The night’s rounded off at 12.30am with The Joy of Abba, a documentary exploring how the pop group raised the bar in the 1970s and early 1980s, popularising the sound of Swedish melancholy.

New or Returning Shows

Celebrity Bridge of Lies, 5.40pm, BBC One

Ross Kemp (above) presents a celebrity edition of the high stakes quiz, with Sam Quek, Dion Dublin, Joanna Page and Melvin Odoom playing to win money for their chosen charities.

They must cross the Bridge by stepping on the truths and avoiding lies, earning money for each correct answer. There is always a safe path across the Bridge, they just have to find it.

Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, 7.00pm, Virgin Media One/UTV

The final season of this great show continues.

Ant and Dec finally get a taste of their own medicine as famous faces they have pranked, including Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary, Craig David, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell, get their own back in I'm a Celebrity Get Out of Me Ear: The Revenge.

Also, Take That get a couple of new members in the End of the Show Show and Bafta-winning actor Lenny Rush is the star guest announcer.

The Bodyguard, 9.45pm, TG4

Hugely popular 1992 romantic thriller directed by Mick Jackson, starring Kevin Costner, Whitney Houston, Gary Kemp and Bill Cobbs.

Rachel Marron (Houston), a famous singer and actress is subjected to death threats by an obsessive fan and persuaded to hire a former secret service agent (Costner) as her bodyguard.

But neither she nor her new minder realise the effect they are about to have on each other's lives.

A Matter of Life and Death, 1.00pm, BBC Two

Another chance to see this wonderful film through the lens of a beautiful 4K restoration.

Powell and Pressburger's romantic fantasy stars David Niven, Kim Hunter, Roger Livesey and Marius Goring.

Niven plays a Second World War bomber pilot who survives jumping out of his stricken plane without a parachute and falls in love with the radio operator (Hunter) he had first spoken to during the fateful flight.

A heavenly messenger (Goring) is sent to tell him he should have died and that his presence is required in the afterlife, but he remains determined to continue his life on Earth and insists on a trial to resolve the issue.

The Lost City, 9.00pm, Channel 4

Here’s an adventure comedy, starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe, that’s pretty much a Saturday night crowd-pleaser.

Bullock plays reclusive author Loretta Sage, who writes about exotic places in her popular adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan (Tatum).

While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta gets kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Radcliffe) who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city's lost treasure from her latest story.

Determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her.

Family Flick

Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

Animated sequel, featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez.

Count Dracula and company participate in a cruise for sea-loving monsters, unaware that their boat is being commandeered by the monster-hating Van Helsing family.

Sport

GAA Beo, 7.00pm, TG4

With the start of the 2024 Championship just a couple of weeks away, here’s the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 Final.

Kilkenny face Clare at Semple Stadium in Tipperary. Micheál Ó Domhnaill presents coverage of the decider.

The Cats eliminated Limerick their semi-final while the Banner got the better of Tipp to reach the final. Throw-in is at 7.15pm.

Investec Champions Cup, 7.30pm, RTÉ2

It’s Leinster v Leicester Tigers (Kick-off 8.00pm) from the round-of-16 match at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.

Last season's runners-up Leinster claimed four wins from four in the pool stage and will be expecting to prevail against the Tigers, who scraped though with two victories and two defeats.

Jacqui Hurley presents, with commentary by Hugh Cahill and Donal Lenihan.
