Bristol-based indie four-piece Chasing Kites have released their new single, Collide. We asked them the BIG questions . . .

The track is one close to vocalist Matt Donnelly's heart, telling the story of how his parents met.

"The writing of Collide took me into unexplored territory in terms of the lyrical content," he says.

"The track tells the story of how my parents fell in love in somewhat unusual circumstances, in that my dad was already married, and my Mum in a long-term relationship.

"I find it incredibly romantic how their love for one another was strong enough to overcome this.

"I'd been keen to incorporate this story into a Chasing Kites track for a while and for whatever reason, this piece of instrumentation felt like the perfect opportunity."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I work in an SEMH school alongside being in a band. I am starting my Master's at Bristol University in September. I went viral on LADbible when I was 16 for making an unforgivable error as a goalkeeper in a football match (on camera... obviously).

How would you describe your music?

I would describe our music as straight up indie rock, underpinned by 80s synth textures and lyrics that are straight from the heart.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Between us, we draw musical inspiration from a relatively wide range of artists. Despite this, we never stray too far from the realms of indie rock. We are a guitar band, after all. Main inspirations for me are The Smiths, Nick Cave and The Strokes.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Answering this question has made me realise how late I was to watching live music. I genuinely believe I played my first gig (age 12) before I attended a live show as an audience member. The earliest one I can think of is The 1975 at O2 Academy Brixton. I believe that would have been 2013.

What was the first record you ever bought?

The first album I bought was Maroon 5's Songs About Jane. I was seriously young when I first heard that record so some of my earliest memories are listening to it in my Dad's car. I was so entranced and it was certainly how I discovered my love of melody.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Currently, my favourite song is All For You by our good friends, Adult Leisure. What a track.

Favourite lyric of all time?

I'm not sure I could bring myself to pick a single favourite line from the track, but the lyrical prowess that is showcased in Nick Cave's Stagger Lee is unparalleled. Genius.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It would have to be Well I Wonder by The Smiths. That track has meant so much to me for a long time.
