Irish singer songwriter Paul Dunworth has released his new single, The Tenderloin, with his EP The House Of Donn to follow on Friday. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

The House Of Donn concludes a trilogy of EPs, following Through A Forest and Echoes.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I Have a Cert, Diploma and Degree in music performance from the Guitar Institute London, including Student of the year Degree year. I'm a full-time guitar/music tutor living in Newcastle West Co Limerick. I live with my wonderful wife Robin and my beautiful dog Rosie.

How would you describe your music?

Dark folk. elements of morbid fascination. Tales of Inner turmoil, addiction, regret, isolation and fear expressed through melodic guitar accompaniments and passionate vocal expression. words and sounds to create my own unique blend of modern folk expression.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Too many to mention but within the folk world I would say The Gloaming, Planxty, Andy Irvine, The Breath, John Martyn, John Smith, Luke Kelly among many others.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Mad to say but it was the rock band System of a Down at Ozzfest 2002. My folk interests would arrive much later lol.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory straight from The Roxy store, Newcastle West in 1995.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Tough question. Although not a fresh release I've gone back to The Gloaming’s The Sailor's Bonnet from Other Voices. Martin Hayes is a magician and I was lucky enough to witness The Gloaming live before Dennis Cahill passed. What a gig. Magic, pure magic.

Favourite lyric of all time?

The Poet as Black Sheep - Michael Hartnett (poet), Newcastle West. "I have seen him dine, In middle- class surroundings, his manners refined, as his family around him, talk about nothing, one of their favourite theses".

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

John Martyn - Solid Air.
