Irish actor Éanna Hardwicke was among the winners at this year's Royal Television Society RTS Programme Awards in London on Tuesday night.

The Cork man won the Supporting Actor - Male award for his performance in the BBC true crime series The Sixth Commandment.

Honouring Hardwicke's work, the RTS judges at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London praised: "A performance of compelling control and skill, both mesmerising and subtle."

The Sixth Commandment also won the RTS honours for Limited Series and Writer (Sarah Phelps).

Hardwicke has also been nominated for a TV BAFTA for his performance in The Sixth Commandment. The TV BAFTAs take place in London on Sunday 12 May.

Last month, Hardwicke was honoured as a European Shooting Star at the Berlin International Film Festival.

His fellow Corkonian Máiréad Tyers was an RTS Comedy Performance - Female nominee this year for her lead role in the Disney+ series Extraordinary, losing out to Black Ops' Gbemisola Ikumelo. Tyers is also among the nominees for May's TV BAFTAs.

Co Fermanagh's Emma Moran, the writer-creator of Extraordinary, was honoured with the RTS prize for Scripted Comedy. Moran is also a TV BAFTA nominee this year.

BBC Northern Ireland's coverage of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final won the RTS' Sports Programme prize.

"The passion and joy in this clever production poured through the screen," said the RTS judges.

The acclaimed BBC series Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland won the Documentary Series award.

The RTS judges said Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland was "a gold-standard masterclass in telling a complex story through the words of the people who experienced it".

Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland is available on the RTÉ Player.
