Labour Party leader Ivana Bacik reveals her love for Wham!, George Michael, Meatloaf, Billy Bragg, The The, The Specials, and Blondie on the new season of music series For The Record on digital radio station RTÉ Gold.

The show, which airs from Sunday, 14 April at 6.00pm, is again hosted by Pat O'Mahony and it sees him visit well known people’s house to rifle through their record collections.

Broadcaster Dave Fanning, artist Jim Fitzpatrick, Niamh Kavanagh, singer of Ireland’s winning Eurovision Song Contest entry in 1993, retired weather forecaster Evelyn Cusack and TV producer Bill Hughes are also guests on the new 10-part series.

Producer/director/presenter O’Mahony’s career began on RTÉ fashion show Head 2 Toe in the late eighties and he went on to produce and present his own Access All Areas series on RTÉ Radio 1, produce RTÉ 2fm’s Dave Fanning Show, and present Féile TV for RTÉ and Witnness TV for TV3.

For the record, he bought his first 7" single - Quick Joey Small (Run Joey Run) by The Real McCoy - in 1969 for 7s 6d. He still has it.

Speaking about the new series, O’Mahony, says, '’Whenever I've had the space, my records have always had pride of place.

"For some people it's books, for me it's records. But It's only relatively recently that I realised I am an actual record collector.

"Up until then I always figured I was just a bit of a hoarder who also happened to be a music fan who hung onto, not only records, both vinyl and CDs, but also to gig tickets and laminates, music magazines and other bits and bobs of music memorabilia.

"A couple of years ago, however, I found myself - alongside a bunch of other mostly middle-aged men - at a record fair, flicking through boxes of second-hand vinyl albums in search of a bargain or five. It was time to finally acknowledge it - my name is Pat and I am a record collector.’’

RTÉ Gold is RTÉ’s digital-only classic music station available on smartphone, smart speaker, digital TV and online.
