Diana Ross at the BBC, 9.15pm, BBC Two

A night of programming dedicated to Diana Ross begins with a selection of the best performances from the singer's visits to the BBC.

It includes programmes such as Top of the Pops, Wogan and the National Lottery Show, both as the frontwoman of the Supremes and as a successful solo artist.

Featuring the likes of Baby Love, I'm Still Waiting, Why Do Fools Fall in Love?, Upside Down and Love Hangover.

Followed at 10.15pm by Diana Ross: Live at the Royal Albert Hall 1973.

It’s a concert by the singer at the famous London venue during her European tour, featuring performances of Touch Me in the Morning, Baby Love and Ain't No Mountain High Enough.

Then at 11.15pm there’s The Wiz, a musical based on The Wizard of Oz, featuring an all-black cast, directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor.

Dorothy is suddenly whisked off to a magical land and makes some unusual friends as she tries to get back home, while attempting to avoid the attentions of a wicked witch.

Amazon with Bruce Parry, 8.00pm, BBC Four

The former Royal Marine journeys from the source of the mighty Amazon river high up on Peruvian mountain Nevado Mismi, through the world's largest forest, to the port of Belem, where the tiny trickle that started as glacial melt water finally meets the Atlantic Ocean.

He begins his journey by spending time with a family of llama farmers and meeting key players in the cocaine trade.

Here’s a 2022 stand-up performance by the comedian at Dublin's Vicar Street venue, in which talks about dealing with missing body parts, a TV show he'll never do and an astonishing family revelation.

Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, 7.00pm, Virgin Media One/UTV

Maya Jama is the Star Guest Announcer, there is live music from McFly and Hollywood superstar Paul Rudd meets Little Ant & Dec.

Plus, supermarket shoppers get the surprise of their lives in a hidden camera prank and a Takeaway classic is back with What's Next?

Parkinson: The Interviews, 10.45pm, BBC Four

In a programme originally broadcast in 1995, chat show host Michael Parkinson revisits memorable encounters with actor and comedian Frankie Howerd (below) and a Christmas interview with slapstick magician Tommy Cooper.

Featuring clips from Up Pompeii, The Main Attraction and The Bob Monkhouse Show.

That’s followed at 11.20pm by Oooh Er, Missus! The Frankie Howerd Story, a documentary first shown in 1990 looking at the life of the comedian and actor, featuring highlights from his TV and film career.

Contributors include Max Bygraves, Ned Sherrin, Johnny Speight, Eric Sykes, June Whitfield and Michael Winner.

Gran Turismo, Sky Cinema & NOW

David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell, Djimon Hounsou star in director Neill Blomkamp.

Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, Gran Turismo is the ultimate wish fulfilment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.

Saturday Cinema

Death on the Nile, 2.15pm, BBC Two

Here’s an Agatha Christie cracker from 1978, starring Peter Ustinov (below), Bette Davis, Maggie Smith, George Kennedy, Mia Farrow, Jane Birkin, Olivia Hussey, Angela Lansbury and David Niven.

Ustinov plays detective Hercule Poirot, who investigates a murder on board a paddle steamer in Egypt.

The victim was an unpopular heiress, whose outspoken manner put her at odds with most of her fellow passengers during their cruise on the Nile.

Top Gun: Maverick, 9.10pm, Channel 4

The massively hyped action-drama sequel, starring Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer and Bashir Salahuddin.

Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell returns to the Top Gun Instructor programme where he must confront his past as he trains a group of younger pilots for a deadly mission.

Among them is the son of 'Maverick''s deceased best friend, Lieutenant Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw.

Family Flick

Paddington, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

Cracking comedy based on Michael Bond's series of children's books, starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Nicole Kidman, with the voice of Ben Whishaw.

An earthquake forces a bear from the Peruvian jungle to start a new life in London.

He finds modern Britain to be very different from the stories told to him by his aunt but makes a new home with a kind family. However, a sinister taxidermist intends to turn him into a museum exhibit.

Sport

URC Live, 4.45pm, RTÉ2

Streaming on RTÉ Player

First up in the rugby double-header is Connacht v Emirates Lions (KO 5.15pm) at Dexcom Stadium.

Connacht are battling it out for a place in the quarter-finals and will be expecting to make home advantage count against the Lions, who have struggled for consistency so far this season.

Followed at 7pm by Zebre v Leinster (KO 7.35pm), the concluding match in the 12th round of fixtures, held at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi.

After finishing bottom of the table in each of the last two seasons, Zebre has shown signs of improvement this time around.

But Leinster sit at the top of the table after 11 games and will expect a win.
