Katja Mia among the winners at RTS Ireland 2024 Awards

TV presenter and recent DWTS contestant Katja Mia was among winners at the Royal Television Society Republic of Ireland Awards/Gradaim 2024 Awards.

There was a total of 11 winners spread across RTÉ, Virgin Media, Sky Ireland and TG4.

The 2024 RTS Ireland award winners were announced at a ceremony on Tuesday evening March 19 in Dublin's Liberty Hall Theatre with Dermot Whelan hosting the event.

The ceremony honoured the outstanding achievements in Irish television programming over the past year and highlighted the many talented professionals in Ireland’s TV industry.

Katja Mia was presented with the Breakthrough Talent award by Louise Cantillon. Katja hosts The Six O’Clock Show and Uprising on Virgin Media Television and recently won the heart of the nation as a contestant on RTÉ One’s Dancing with the Stars.

The prestigious Breakthrough Talent Award is decided by the Royal Television Society Republic of Ireland Committee, comprising of representatives from Virgin Media, TG4, Sky, RTÉ and the independent Irish television sector.

On accepting her award, Katja Mia said: "I am beyond thrilled to be the recipient of the 2024 Breakthrough Talent Award. It means the absolute word to me to have my achievements recognised by RTS Ireland and the industry.

"This is just the beginning for me, and I’m so excited for what’s next".

Agnes Cogan, RTS Republic of Ireland Chair said: "This year’s winners exemplify the exceptional calibre of Irish television content that is continuing to elevate the standards of Irish television.

"We are a small but flourishing island, and I couldn’t be prouder of the outstanding programming we produce.

"On behalf of the RTS Republic of Ireland committee, I want to send my heartfelt congratulations to all nominees and winners for their outstanding work and to our esteemed panel of judges for making an invaluable contribution to this year’s awards."

Sky Ireland were this year’s host broadcaster, they curated an entertaining evening for the annual assembly of Ireland’s TV industry.

Bryan Dobson

Ahead of his retirement next month, Bryan Dobson of RTÉ News was surprised on stage with a video compilation of his career highlights, including a fun Ron Burgundy reference.

The audience, full of TV industry peers, celebrated his significant contribution to Irish journalism spanning nearly four decades.

Other Irish TV moments celebrated during this year’s award ceremony includes the launch of CÚLA4, the new Irish language children’s channel on TG4 and the 25th anniversary of the launch of what's now Virgin Media Television.
