London-based psychedelic band The Lunar Effect have released Pulling Daisies, the first single from their new album, Sounds of Green and Blue. We asked them the BIG questions . . .
Tell us three things about yourself?
Jon: I play guitar and piano in The Lunar Effect, My brain doesn't work like most other people. I was once chased by a walrus.
How would you describe your music?
Jon: I think our music takes inspiration from a lot of the classic bands of the 1970s with some fuzzy elements of 90s grunge and hopefully a little bit of originality from us to make it unique.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Dan: Jose Pasillas II, Abe Laboriel Jr and Ringo Starr. My three favourite drummers that mastered the art of playing beautifully technical, interesting yet subtle beats without making it all about them. They serve the song. Not just drummers, proper musicians.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Brett: UB40 was the first gig I went to. First gig with my friends and not my parents was either the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Muse.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Dan: No idea what the first record I personally bought was, but I remember loving Wonderwall by Oasis when it came out. Asked my Dad for the single, he came back with the godawful cover by Mike Flowers.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Jon: Probably something from Like Clockwork by Queens of The Stone Age, Maybe The Vampyre of Time and Memory.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Brett: Probably the opening part of Muffin Man by Frank Zappa or something by Zappa at least.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Jon: Stay With Me by The Faces. Been listening to it since I was a kid and it’s still great now. Whenever it comes on you just can’t help but get into it.
