Elton John, Paul McCartney, Questlove, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are set to make cameos in the This is Spinal Tap sequel.

The follow-up to the 1984 cult movie classic about a luckless British heavy metal band has begun shooting in New Orleans and will see the film's director Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and The Simpsons star Harry Shearer all reprising their roles.

Reiner will return as the documentarian Martin "Marty" DiBergi and he, Guest, McKean and Shearer conceived the sequel, which sees "England’s loudest and most punctual band," reuniting for one final concert after a 15-year break.

Speaking about the sequel, Reiner said, "I recently spoke to Marty DiBergi, who said that he was more than happy to take a sabbatical from his position as a visiting Professor’s Assistant at the Ed Wood School of Cinematic Arts to once again document Spinal Tap to ensure their place in the pantheon of Rock and Roll."

This Is Spinal Tap was released to critical acclaim in 1984 and went on to become a cult classic.

In 2002, it was deemed "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant" by the US Library of Congress and was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.
