The Masked Singer host Joel Dommett told Patrick Kielty on Friday's Late Late Show that the success of the hit music competition series is still a mystery to him, describing it as "absolutely insane".
After five seasons of the ITV ratings hit - the latest won by McFly's Danny Jones - comedian and presenter Dommett is still trying to figure out how the show has achieved appointment-to-view status.
"It's one of those shows where I don't think we sort of really realised what it meant to families," he said.
"When I got the call for the show, I was like, 'Are you serious?!' And then we made the show, and I was like, 'This is not going to be a hit, is it?' And then it just really sort of captured everyone's hearts, I think.
"It's just ridiculous! It's so silly! It's really stupid! I can say that - I'm the host!"
The show has become such a phenomenon that Dommett is now in demand for The Masked Singer nixers.
"Companies have started asking me to do a corporate version of The Masked Singer for their company on Zoom!" Dommett laughed. "That's how big the show has become. And I say yes - because I love money! I love money! I love it! Thank you!"
"Welcome to RTÉ, you're in the wrong place tonight!" quipped Kielty.
Dommett continued: "Imagine we're on Zoom and there's this company and they're all in their different houses and then there's one person from the company dressed head to toe in, like, a costume, dancing and singing in their lounge! And they're all trying to guess who it is on the chat function! This is my life, Patrick!
"And then I come in at the end and I'm like, 'Take it off! Take it off! Take it off! Oh - it's Anne from Accounts!'
"And then I shut my laptop and I buy a car!"
