Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I’m a singer/songwriter, currently based in Dublin and I’ve never met an early bird luncheon I didn’t like.

How would you describe your music?

My songs fall somewhere between folk tunes and jazz parlour songs. Self-description is tricky, storytelling plays a big role in my work.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I heard Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens when I was 14 and sat transfixed at the stereo. Bluegrass pickers like Molly Tuttle and Tony Rice greatly influenced my guitar playing. Piano based songwriters like Randy Newman, Elton John and Dean Friedman are as influential to me today as when I first heard them.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

My dad won tickets to a Bryan Adams’ concert when I was 12/13 and was kind enough to bring me. We did that a lot. Some of my fondest memories are going to concerts with my dad. We saw everyone from Bob Dylan to Aerosmith .

What was the first record you ever bought?

I bought Tapestry by Carole King and Nina Simone at Town Hall in the same day with money from my Grandparents for my 13th birthday. It was a good day.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Birch Street - D.Cullen.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"You’ve got to tell me, the brave Captain, why are the wicked so strong? How do the angels get to sleep when the devil leaves the porch light on?" - Tom Waits

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Surrey With The Fringe On Top - Blossom Dearie.
