Tom Cruise is to star in the next film from The Revenant Oscar winner Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Entertainment trade publication The Hollywood Reporter says the "plot details are being kept under wraps".
González Iñárritu is among the writers on the project.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that the film "fits the bill of rumours that Cruise is eager to work with auteurs after spending much of the past decade on franchise projects".
Cruise's next Mission: Impossible film is due in cinemas in May 2025.
