Founded in 2021 by songwriter and guitarist Sara Barberio, along with Jacopo Stofler (guitar), Federico Camici (bass), and Grim Nordahl (drums), Elaphi, their name inspired by the Greek word 'elaphos' meaning deer, play moody folk with hushed electronics.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

Sara: I enjoy simple things. I like being in contact with nature as often as I can, and I love cooking. At the moment I am enjoying practising mindful meditation and breath control. It helps me to be more focused and centred on myself and is something I also try to practice before going on stage when the environment offers the space to do it.

How would you describe your music?

Sara: Introspective, unfiltered and open to emotions.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Sara: The artists and bands that shaped my songwriting during these years are Radiohead, Daughter, Emma Ruth Rundle, Ben Howard, Elliott Smith, and Warpaint. My inspiration can change over the period and I like to keep my songwriting as open and experimental as possible but still, I want to lose and find myself in it.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Grim: The first gig I remember going to was Audioslave. I can barely remember what it was like, I just remember it being incredibly loud for my young ears. I wish I could go back and appreciate it more.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Jaco: The first record I ever bought was Nowhere by Ride. I had just moved to Ireland and it was the first thing I bought with my first pay check.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Jaco: Safe in Your Skin by Title Fight. I hadn’t listened to that band in ages and rediscovered them recently, they became an inspiration ever since.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Sara: "I’m a creep. I’m a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don’t belong here" - Radiohead.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fede: Bolero - Ravel.
