Canadian four-piece Mother Mother have released their new album Grief Chapter and play the 3Olympia, Dublin on 22 and 23 February. We asked keyboardist Jasmin Parkin the BIG questions . . .

The band, who also include Ryan Guldemond (vocals, guitar), Molly Guldemond (vocals, keys), Ali Siadat (drums) and Mike Young (bass), say The Grief Chapter explores themes of mortality, grief, and living fearlessly.

As Guldemond explains, "death and grief rooted themselves in these songs, but not morosely. It's used more as a reference point for how to live more fully and presently. Life is fleeting, therefore it’s precious, and death is the most effective way I know to frame this miracle of living."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I grew up on a hippie commune in Merville, British Columbia in Canada. My grandmother got her first hit of acid from Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead (at least that's the story I've been told). I am a trained hair stylist, yoga teacher, and during Covid, I attempted to complete my training as a registered massage therapist, but Mother Mother got famous on TikTok!

How would you describe your music?

I like to call it 'weird pop.' If the Pixies and the B-52s had a musical lovechild, you would have Mother Mother.
