Rod Stewart has made his feelings very clear about the music of Ed Sheeran, describing the work of the younger man as "old ginger b*******".
Veteran rocker Stewart (79) is set to release his new album Swing Fever, a big band covers collection with Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, next month and during a promotional interview with British newspaper The Times, he discussed what songs he thinks will stand the test of time.
Asked whether he felt "timeless songs" are still being made, he replied, "I'm sure they are. I like whatshisname… He’s British, really talented and his songs will be around," said Stewart.
When the interviewer suggested Ed Sheeran, Stewart replied, "No, not Ed, I don’t know any of his songs, old ginger b*******. Jesus."
It turned out that Stewart was referring to George Ezra, the English singer who has had hits with tracks such as Budapest and Shotgun.
"I think he writes really tremendous songs," Stewart said. "He’ll be around for quite a while."
Ardent Hibernophile Stewart returns to Ireland to play the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin on Sunday 26 May.
The 13-track Swing Fever is released on 23 February and includes covers of Ain't Misbehavin’, Frankie And Johnny, Sentimental Journey and Lullaby Of Broadway.
