Klara and the Sun is an adaptation of Nobel prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro's dystopian sci-fi novel.
The story follows Klara (Ortega), an Artificial Friend (AF) designed to prevent loneliness. She is bought by a mother (Adams) to be a companion to her daughter, a sickly teenager called Josie (Tharia).
Murphy will star as Rick, Josie's best friend and next-door neighbour.

Producers of the film adaptation are Heyday Films' David Heyman, Garrett Basch, and Waititi, while writer Ishiguro is serving as an executive producer.
From 2018 - 2019, Murphy played the title character in the play Hamnet which was written and directed by Bush Moukarzel and Ben Kidd.
