Rylan Clark presents a new reality show called Hot Mess Summer, The Marvels land on Disney+, there's a documentary about the founder of an international UFO religion, while Neven Maguire heads to Lisbon . . .

Pick of the Day

Hot Mess Summer, Prime Video

This new reality series is presented by Rylan Clark, who leads a group of people who are a 'liability on a night out’ to the Greek island of Zante in the height of summer.

They think they're heading to party hard - but the reality is the exact opposite.

This is the temptation-filled scenario where they must reform their ways, embrace sobriety and run a bar in order to win a hefty cash prize.

They will do everything from cleaning toilets to mixing cocktails (a circular activity for some), but it remains to be seen if they can work together and resist temptation to share a cash prize.

"Hot Mess Summer is going to be funny, entertaining, chaotic and everything you’d expect from a Zante bar," says Rylan. I’m not sure if that’s a promise or a threat.

"But our eight party lovers are hopefully going to take away real life lessons as they go from being the party animal to having instrumental roles in running a successful bar," he adds.

"All I’ll say is that it’s not as easy as it sounds."

New or Returning Shows

The Power of Parker, 9.00pm, RTÉ2

Here’s a pretty good BBC comedy about a self-made man struggling to keep his head above water as the 1980s turn into the 1990s.

Written by and starring Sian Gibson (Peter Kay's pal and co-star in the brilliant Car Share), it also features Conleth Hill, Rosie Cavaliero, George Costigan, Sheila Reid and Jason Barnett.

The show's central character Martin Parker has the ambition of Alan Sugar and the swagger of Robert Kilroy Silk.

With a chain of electrical stores bearing his name, he seems to have it all. But appearances can be deceptive.

The reality is that he’s swimming in a sea of debt, his complicated private life is catching up with him and he's starting to lose his power.

Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.

Raël: The Alien Project, Netflix

Born Claude Maurice Marcel Vorilhon in 1946, Raël is a French journalist who founded and leads the Raëlian Movement, an international UFO religion.

Here's a trailer without English subtitles:

This French series features interviews with his followers, critics and Raël himself, as this docuseries traces how a UFO-inspired religion spiraled into a controversial cult.

What a time to be alive . . .

The Real Line of Duty, Prime Video

We’ve all lapped up the BBC series starring Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure and Martin Compston – but are you ready for the real thing?

As the title suggests, this is all about real British cops trying to uncover real bad British cops.

Pretty sure this was on the BBC a couple of years ago, but info is at a premium.

Neven's Portuguese Food Trails, 8.00pm, RTÉ One

Streaming on RTÉ Player

Rise of the Nazis, 9.00pm, BBC Four

With the recent rise of the far-right, even in Ireland, here’s an important lesson from history that shouldn’t be ignored.

It’s a dramatised documentary examining how Hitler and the Nazi party rose to power in Germany during the 1930s, revealing the greed, manipulation and frightening underestimation of Adolf Hitler's ambition.

In 1930, Germany was a liberal democracy, with elections, parliament and the rule of law, but just four years later its leader was a dictator and its government is in the hands of murderers.

Leading historians and experts take viewers inside the minds of those hellbent on gaining power and those who tried to stop them.

Sport

FA Cup Live, 7.30pm, UTV

Tonight’s FA Cup action is Aston Villa v Chelsea (KO 8.00pm) in a fourth-round replay at Villa Park, which was for many years home to an FA Cup semi-final.

The first meeting between the teams at Stamford Bridge ended goalless, and Chelsea won 2-0 here in the league last season when the sides last met at this venue.

But aside from a rare defeat against Newcastle last week, the Villans have boasted an excellent home record this term and will be hopeful of progressing.
