"It's the start of a brand-new year, a chance for you to start fresh, refocus and see what is really important in this life," Cory says.
"This new song is all about good times, re-connecting with family and friends. Committing to yourself to make things better in the year ahead and not taking those special things for granted.
"It’s a country song for country people, so cheers. Here’s to you, here’s to me and a different kind of year!"
Cory’s debut album, Who I Am, landed at No 1 on several Canadian charts including iTunes’ Country Songs and the Canadian Nielsen Digital Sales Rock Genre charts.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I’m a huge animal lover (all kinds). I’d like to have a sanctuary for animals where they can live their best life and keep me company when I’m back home! I love my family and friends, there’s nothing more important than that. I’m a bit of a wild one/adrenaline junkie. If I’m not jumping around hyping myself up right before getting on stage, I’m flying a plane or jumping out of one! I’ll give you four - I failed grade 10 music. The only class I ever failed in school.
How would you describe your music?
My music is best described as a country rock or country music with rock n roll attitude. it’s a mix of Merle Haggard, Eric Church and Ozzy, maybe even some Pantera.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I have many from my days as a drummer but now as a singer/songwriter there are still many! Haha. So, Merle Haggard, Eric Church , Brad Paisley, Bryan Adams , Rush, Shania Twain.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
The first concert I can remember at around ten or eleven years old was in my hometown during our summer festival and it was Reo Speedwagon. I must of listened to their music for a year straight, still do from time to time!
What was the first record you ever bought?
The first record I actually remember buying was 18 till I Die Bryan Adams. I bought it as my mom’s easter present in 1996 when it was released and I was only seven. She wasn’t the only one that loved that record.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Cuts Like A Knife by Bryan Adams.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Freeze this moment A little bit longer, Make each sensation A little bit stronger, Experience slips away, Experience slips away , Time stands still" - Time Stands Still - Rush.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
that is a tough question… probably 2112 - rush. not only is it a great song melodically, lyrically and musically but its almost 21 minutes long!!
