Miriam Mullins has said she and her Dancing with the Stars professional partner Montel Hewson had "so much more to give" after they were sent home in Sunday night's episode.

They became the second couple to be eliminated from the competition following Rory Cowan's departure last week.

She and her partner Montel danced a Cha-cha-cha to Can't Stop the Feeling from Trolls in Sunday's Movie Week special and scored 20 points from the judges. It unfortunately wasn't enough to continue on their dancing journey.

Speaking to Jennifer Zamparelli on RTÉ 2fm on Monday morning, the TikTok star said of the moment they were eliminated: "I was shocked, but I had this feeling it could be us.

"When you said our names I tried to compose myself and say I'll cry after, but sure I cried!"

She continued: "I feel like we had so much more to give and we had a couple of dances on the way that were going to be brilliant. But it's fine, everything happens for a reason."

Her dance partner Montel Hewson, who joined the RTÉ One dancing competition this season, sounded disappointed to be departing the show so early.

"I'm actually feeling ok", he told host Zamparelli. "I wasn't expecting it either, I got a shock. But it is what it is."

The professional dancer said he "pushed her to the limit" on the show, and added: "I want to say how proud I am of her, she put her heart and soul on the floor and in the practices."

When asked what aspect of taking part in Dancing with the Stars she found most challenging, Mullins replied: "Just learning how to dance - I've learned so much about myself, my attention span is catastrophic, but as the weeks have gone on I've gotten better and better at that."

She added: "It's literally been the best experience of my life. To come from making videos on my own in my room on TikTok to going in front of the nation, I'm really proud of myself.

"It's hard work, mentally and physically, but we just had a great time. That's the main thing, I'm so glad I can come out of this experience saying I had the time of my life doing it."

Dancing with the Stars continues on Sunday, 4 February at 6.35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
