Liverpudlian pop singer Jake Carter has released his new single, Love Me Like You Do, and plays Academy 2 in Dublin on Saturday 3 February. We asked him the BIG questions . ..
The track follows the release of his song Milk and Honey, and his lifted from Jake's new EP, which is due for release later this year.
Love Me Like You Do is a mid-tempo love song originally written as a piano ballad by Jake and Irish singer- songwriter Megan O’Neil and was produced by long-time collaborator Richey McCourt, who has been working with Jake on new material over the last 12 months.
"When I took the track into studio with Richey McCourt (who also produced Milk and Honey) we worked on giving the song more power and energy," Jake says.
"So, we decided to speed it up slightly and add the guitar riff at the start. This coupled with some clever drums, strong harmonies and moving dynamics really brought the song to life."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Music has always been a part of my life. My main instrument is guitar, but I used to play the fiddle growing up. I picked up guitar in secondary school, as fiddle was the coolest of instruments with the girls in Liverpool. I have a dog called Lenny; his full name is Lennon though named after John. I drink lots of coffee.
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as a fresh pop sound that uses relatable lyrics to engage the listeners.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Obviously, being from Liverpool, one of my biggest inspirations would have to be The Beatles. To have grown up, literally round the corner from the likes of John Lennon’s house, Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, I was constantly reminded of how the biggest band in the world, lived just down the road from me. I have such a wide catalogue of acts that I take inspiration from. I would take influence from current acts like Tom Grennan and the Jonas Brothers as well as some of the older artists that I grew up listening to, such as McFly and Take Thats.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
First gig I ever went to was McFly at live at the Pops in Liverpool which is now where the M&S Bank Arena stands. I distinctly remember them coming on for their encore with water, pistols and soaking the crowd, such a great gig.
What was the first record you ever bought?
I think my age group where the last to buy physical CDs before iTunes took over and then eventually streaming platforms where introduced. I remember two CDs that I had bought one was Take That’s Circus album and another being McFly’s Room On The Third Floor album. I’d say the McFly one was the first CD I bought. I had a SpongeBob Walkman CD player that I listen to them on.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Lewis Capaldi - A Cure For Minds Unwell. He just keeps releasing such amazing music and delivering every time.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…" - Imagine by John Lennon.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably have to be a Beatles track, maybe Hey Jude. It’s hard not to feel good listening to that outro.
Where can people find your music/more information?
You can find my music on all streaming platforms and you can keep up with everything I do on social media with Instagram TikTok, Facebook and my website.
