Sophie Ellis-Bextor has praised Barry Keoghan's dance scene to her song Murder On The Dancefloor in Saltburn, saying, "Barry really went for it."

Speaking to People Magazine about how her 2001 hit ended up in the movie, Ellis-Bextor. who played in St Anne's Park in Dublin last summer, said that director Emerald Fennell sent her a synopsis of the scene:

"This little synopsis described how the character would be dancing, but I didn't have any context. I've got quite a quirky sense of humour anyway, so I was like, I think I have to see how this plays out.

"Barry really went for it. And it's, like, the whole song! I didn't really know exactly how it would play in terms of the role it was in the movie until I saw it at the screening, but I absolutely loved it," she said. "I think it's such a clever, funny, smart film. I really enjoyed it."

She added, "He's never going to be able to hear that in the same way again, every time he's out and that comes on, people are going to think he's going to strip off!"

In the film, Oscar-nominated Keoghan plays Oliver, an Oxford University student who becomes intrigued by his classmate Felix's aristocratic life and background and is invited to spend the summer at his family's luxury estate, Saltburn.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the dance scene, he said: "The initial thing was about me having no clothes on. I’m a bit, ehhh. But after take one, I was ready to go. I was like, 'Let’s go again. Let’s go again.

"You kind of forget, because there’s such a comfortable environment created, and it gives you that license to go, All right, this is about the story now.

"It’s ownership. This is my place. It’s full confidence in, "I can do what I want in this manor. I can strip to my barest and waltz around because this is mine." Yeah… it was fun."

Keoghan has been nominated for a Golden Globe at the 81st Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday 7 January.

He joins two other Irish actors who have also been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama: Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer and Andrew Scott for All Of Us Strangers.

Saltburn is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
