Siobhan McSweeney has said she "forgot how to be vulnerable" while filming the second season of Derry Girls.
The actress, who played Sister Michael in the Channel 4 comedy, said three traumatic events took place in a row when she was filming.
Speaking to the Radio Times, she said: "My father died during the second series of Derry Girls, then my house burned down and then I had the accident.".
She eventually had to ask for help. "I forgot how to be vulnerable. Every day I just thought, 'I haven’t died, brilliant, keep going’, but eventually enough bad things happened that I asked for help.
"All the horrible stuff that happened has taught me I have a great support network: the best friends and family in the world," she said.
McSweeney also hosts The Great Pottery Throw Down and speaking about the show's Christmas Special, she said: "It wasn’t as hot as last year, that was particularly grim, but I do think Gladstone has that sort of Dickensian feel. It was beautiful, with fake snow and loads of Christmas trees.
"It’s only our second festive episode, and I think it’s a lovely thing to do. You get these brilliantly funny, charming and beloved celebrities usually making an absolute pig’s ear of it."
