Fairytale of New York: The Story of a Christmas Classic, 10.15pm, RTÉ One
To mark the passing of Shane MacGowan, this celebration of an iconic song and a unique songwriter is airing again.
This documentary looks back at the making of the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl's Fairytale of New York, now one of the most popular Christmas hits ever, in the company of Shane MacGowan, who reminisces about the writing of the song over the course of two years, about the importance of his family roots in Tipperary to his music and the early days of the Pogues.
Christy Moore, Imelda May, Paul Simon and Bob Geldof are among the musicians and songwriters giving their response to Fairytale in the programme.

How to Cook Well with Rory O'Connell at Christmas 8.30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player
In the first of his two programmes, chef Rory O'Connell shows viewers how to cook well this festive season. He kicks off with a beef consommé with brunoise of vegetables, before following with grilled leeks with nduja, tomatoes and rosemary, and crushed twice cooked potatoes with chilli and coriander. To complete the meal, he makes tangerine possets and jelly with chocolate leaves.

Vigil, 9pm, BBC One
The second season of the gripping Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie-starring procedural thriller series Vigil concludes on Tuesday night. With one person dead and another injured on board her flight home, Amy is left scrambling for answers, while Kirsten puts herself in greater danger by agreeing to meet with Sutherland.
