Tipperary singer/songwriter Cormac Looby headlines Dublin's Workmans Club this Sunday, 17 December. We asked him the BIG questions . . .
Cormac released his debut EP, Things We Don't Control, recorded with a full live band at the Black Gate Studio, Galway, in 2022.

Two more singles, Lobsters and I Don't Want To Let You Down and earlier this year he was chosen as a nominee for the Irish Music Month 'Local Hero' with Radio Nova .
He has also appeared at the Ruby Sessions in Dublin and played support to Bombay Bicycle Club, David Keenan and Maria Kelly.
Cormac has just finished recording his debut album, A Perpetual State of Irony, which will be released next year.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I am from Tipperary. I qualified as a teacher of Spanish at Manchester Metropolitan University. I was the Cahir Park AFC Youth Players' Player of the year in 2013.

How would you describe your music?
Some kind of sad folk/pop/rock type thing.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Phoebe Bridgers, Sam Fender, Mick Flannery, Mitski, Springsteen.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
The Mullingar Country Music Festival with my family when I was about right years old. Got to go see Mundy sans parents it was such a buzz!
What was the first record you ever bought?
Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane. I also had Burn by Usher as a single on CD. The first track I bought online was When the Sun Goes Down by Arctic Monkeys and I bought it three times by accident.

Favourite lyric of all time?
"I buried a hatchet; it's comin' up lavender" from Smoke Signals by Phoebe Bridgers. Special, timely mention to "You’re the measure of my dreams" from Rainy Night in Soho by The Pogues. Marvellous.
