Raised in the town of Aix-en-Provence in south France, Alias studied jazz at prestigious conservatoires in both Marseilles and his hometown.
But growing disillusioned with the strict rules being placed upon him, he decided to step out on his own, first to New York, then to Montreal, where he was enlisted as a contributor for hit TV shows including Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects and where he now resides. ALIAS has also worked as musical director of Cirque du Soleil.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I have a serious addiction for sweets. I can wake up in the middle of night if I know that I have sour candies in my kitchen. I'm a big fan of horror movies. Especially when it’s about spirits, black magic, demons and witchcraft. Pitbull was my nickname when I was a child.
How would you describe your music?
It’s hard to describe your own music but I know that I’m a fan of fuzz, distortion, saturation, whether it’s in punk, psych, hip hop, or electro.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I’m a big fan of Thom Yorke, Ty Segall, Jack White. These guys are from the future for me. But I also love hip hop music - Wu Tang, Cypress, Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Tyler the Creator.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
A Beatles cover band. I was really young; they were like heroes for me. But I recently watched some old footage (from my dad’s camera) and it was really horrible, haha.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Wannabe - Spice Girls. I was a big fan (I’m still a big fan).
What’s your favourite song right now?
It has always been the same, and it’s In The Light by Led Zeppelin. I really like the lyrics, it’s simple but so true. Everybody needs a light.
Favourite lyric of all time?
My Man Don’t Love Me by Billie Holliday. This song and the lyrics break my heart each time I’m listening to it.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
That’s a hard one! It’s like asking me to choose one meal for the rest of my life (That would be candies for sure). I could not choose one song for the rest of my life. I would hate it at the end so silence is my answer! :)
Where can people find your music/more information?
On every platform (Spotify, Deezer, Apple, etc) and also on Instagram, Facebook, and my website.
