Today's TV picks include a much-lauded police drama which returns for a second season, a reality show finale and a classic Irish film...

Vigil, BBC One, 9pm

The crime drama returns for a second series tonight. One of the biggest ratings hits for the BBC in recent years, the first series of Vigil was the UK's most-watched new drama launch since Bodyguard in 2018.

Drawing critical acclaim as well as viewers, it won the International Emmy and secured a BAFTA nomination for best drama series last year.

While the first season was set aboard a claustrophobic nuclear submarine, the second season has broadened its horizons, with the story focusing on the British air force, spanning two continents.

Starring Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie.


Ireland's Fittest Family, RTÉ One, 6.30pm

Things are heating up on the popular fitness competition as the Maher family from Offaly, the Byrnes family from Tipperary, the Stratford family from Cavan, the Bonnar family from Waterford, the O'Regan family from Kerry and the Murphy family from Carlow battle it out for a spot in the final.

They take on treacherous "Bog Jog" at Kilruddery Estate, with the lowest-placing teams facing off in the Hell and Back Eliminator. Presented by Laura Fox.

Kirstie's Handmade Christmas, Channel 4, 8pm

There are few shows as wholesome as this staple of the Christmas TV calendar, in which Kirstie Allsopp provides plenty of festive craft inspiration and ideas.

This year, Allsopp tries her hand at basket-making as well as well as crafting "wonderous windows".

Four winners from previous episodes of the show are invited back to compete against one another to make the best show-stopping tree decoration.

Perfect cosy, low-stakes viewing.

The Field, RTÉ One, 9.30pm

The rousing and timeless film returns to screens tonight and is always worth a re-watch.

The famous and tense drama, set in 1930s Ireland, stars Richard Harris as a stubborn tenant farmer who locks horns with a wealthy American bidder (John Hurt) when the landowner puts his plot up for auction.


Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, RTE Two, 9pm

The 2019 edition of the popular Fast and Furious franchise. Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw must put their differences aside and team up to stop a major terror threat.

An action comedy adventure, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, this is a cheesy, over-the-top action extravaganza.


I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! Final, Virgin Media One, 9pm

Tonight sees the final installment of this year's I’m a Celeb, where one of campmates is crowned this year's King or Queen of the Jungle.
