"It has been an honour to be the first to give voice to Brendan's newly penned gems," says Cathy. "This album has been inspired by those demos myself and Feargal made over the years. It forms a link between old tradition and more modern folk tradition."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I was singing before I was talking, I’ve played with Dervish for over 30 years, I love animals, probably more than people.

Folk, traditional, spirited, soulful.

Who are your musical inspirations?

My first inspiration was my family, they all loved to sing, my parents and siblings all sang, and singing was encouraged and celebrated. After that, a neighbour with a huge record collection introduced me to the music of great songwriters like, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons etc.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

My sister brought me to DeDannan at the Kedue trad festival with Dolores Keane singing, they blew me away.
