Smash-hit Reacher renewed for season three ahead of season two premiere

Reacher star Alan Ritchson has revealed that work has begun on season three of the hit Lee Child adaptation - ahead of season two's premiere on Prime Video this month.

The actor shared the news with fans in a video message on YouTube.

"December is the season of hot cocoa and smiles - and now Reacher," said Ritchson.

"That's right, season two of Reacher premieres December 15 on Prime Video."

Making a great fist of it - Reacher fans are counting down to the new series

"And you know what else December's a season of? Surprises!" Ritchson continued.

He then turned his phone to the Reacher set and added: "And boy, do I have a surprise for you! That's right, you're on the set of season three of Reacher right now. We're officially under way."

The eight-episode season two will premiere with three episodes on Friday 15 December, and new episodes will follow every Friday until 19 January 2024.

Following the success of season one, which was based on Lee Child's first Jack Reacher book, Killing Floor, season two is based on Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in the series.

Releasing the new trailer last month, Prime Video said season two "begins when veteran military police investigator Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) receives a coded message that the members of his former U.S. Army unit, the 110th MP Special Investigations, are being mysteriously and brutally murdered one by one".

"Pulled from his drifter lifestyle, Reacher reunites with three of his former teammates turned chosen family to investigate, including Frances Neagley (Maria Sten); Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan), a forensic accountant for whom Reacher has long had a soft spot; and fast-talking, switchblade-wielding family man David O'Donnell (Shaun Sipos)," the synopsis continued.

"Together, they begin to connect the dots in a mystery where the stakes get higher at every turn, and that brings about questions of who has betrayed them - and who will die next.

"Using his inimitable blend of smarts and size, Reacher will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and protect the members of his unit.

Season two is based on Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in the Jack Reacher series

"If there's one thing Reacher and his team know for certain, it's that you do not mess with the Special Investigators.

"This season, get ready for Reacher and the 110th to hit back hard."

Prime Video added: "Rounding out the cast are Ferdinand Kingsley as A.M., a mercenary that homeland security refers to as a "ghost"; Robert Patrick as Shane Langston, head of security for a private defence contractor with a questionable track record; and Domenick Lombardozzi as tough NYPD detective Guy Russo."

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment when the first season launched in 2022, author Child saluted his leading man Ritchson, revealing that he knew he was perfect for the role from the moment the audition began.

"Alan was the one that totally nailed it - saying nothing, doing nothing, just standing there in the first two seconds. He was the one."
