On a quiet day for new shows, here’s one for those Manchester United fans out there whose happy memories are now rapidly fading.

It’s a documentary providing access to the life and career of former footballer and current Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney.

The programme examines his playing days with Manchester United and the English national team, and also delves into his off-field life as he discusses his most important moments.

With guest appearances from other famous footballers, including Thierry Henry, David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand.

First up is an Invention Test in which they must design one outstanding dish from a bountiful larder of ingredients including pigeons, ox cheek, squid, prawns and a whole host of fruit and vegetables.

This will win seven chefs a ticket to the next round, while the others face further challenges to stay in the contest.

In each episode Russell Kane (above) presides over a different trio of celebrity guests (among them Judi Love, Tom Allen, Maisie Adam, Jon Richardson, Desiree Burch, Miles Jupp, Alex Brooker, Kerry Godliman, Ellie Taylor, Rick Edwards and Charlie Higson, to name a few).

He’ll be steering the debate by dropping "truthbombs" – astonishing, insightful and revelatory facts aimed at encouraging the panellists to reassess and rethink the lives of some of history’s most hallowed names.
