New Dublin pop artist Ava Jay has released her debut single, Nice Girls. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Speaking about the song, she says, "That feeling of being awkward and not yet standing in your power shadowed me in school. I wished I had written this song back then. I would have sung it loud and proud, wearing my turtle back, over-sized school bag, and my rolled-up ankle length skirt."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I love being out in nature. Music has always been a huge part of my life. I'm a firm believer that tea and chocolate is the best combination.

How would you describe your music?

Emotionally driven short stories. Singable, memorable and hooky.

What are your inspirations?

My biggest inspiration is music. Honestly, I think it is the most powerful form of communication available. Music transports me and I want to make music that transports others. Beep beep.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Paramore with my best friend when we were thirteen. Our parents bought us sitting tickets . . . big mistake. We were told to stop throwing shapes by the people behind us, but we couldn’t contain ourselves and had to rock out to every song!

What was the first record you ever bought?

P!nk - M!ssundazood. A classic!

What’s your favourite song right now?

Disco Man by Remi Wolf.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Today, my bird flew away, Gone to find her big blue jay." - October Song by Amy Winehouse.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The Less I know the Better by Tame Impala; it calms me down for some reason. Everything about this song is just so infectious. I can’t help but focus intently on it and forget about my surroundings.

Where can people find your music/more information?

My music is available on major music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal. You can follow me via my X account, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, where I will be documenting my process! @avajaymusic.
