Saoirse Ronan is to star in the satirical comedy-thriller Bad Apples for Jonatan Etzler, the director of the Swedish film One More Time.
US entertainment publication Deadline, which broke the news of Ronan's casting, said the film is an adaptation of Rasmus Lindgren's debut novel De Oönskade (The Unwanted).
Bad Apples "tells the story of Maria (Ronan), a primary school teacher doing her best to inspire a class of 10-year-olds but unable to because of one unruly and chaotic student".
With Maria's career in the balance and the child's behaviour worsening, she accidentally takes and then locks the child in her home.
As Maria tries desperately to rescue the situation, "the class starts flourishing and the staff and parents are thrilled with the improvement".
Filming on Bad Apples is scheduled for next spring.
Ronan can currently be seen on Irish cinema screens opposite Paul Mescal in Foe. Director Etzler's One More Time is available on Netflix.
