Cavan indie band The Would Be's have released their new single, Two Wrongs (Made Me Feel Alright), with their new album HindZeitgeist to follow in early 2024. We asked Paul from the band the BIG questions . . .
Championed by John Peel, the band enjoyed success in the early nineties with songs such as I’m Hardly Ever Wrong, toured with Morrissey, and were NME's Single of the Week on several occasions.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Most definitely human, almost certainly conscious, very possibly wonderful. (but doubt hangs over one of those answers!).
How would you describe your music?
Philosophical pop music.
Who are your musical inspirations?
To name but eight: The Smiths, The Rutles, Rory Gallagher, The Carpenters, Elvis Presley, Nina Simone, Scott Walker, Half Man Half Biscuit.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Big Tom (the mammy might have had something to do with that!).
What was the first record you ever bought?
Elvis Presley's Greatest Hits. There was a little wobble in the vinyl record.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Happy by Bdrmm.
Favourite lyric of all time?

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It's a Good Day by Peggy Lee and Dave Barbour. because if you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, it's best that it's a cheerful optimistic song and you get to hear Peggy Lee's great voice each time.
