Pick of the Day

Milli Vanilli, Paramount+

Anyone who was into music back in the late 1980s/early 1990s will recall the fall from grace of German pop duo Milli Vanilli.

Here's the story of Robert 'Rob’ Pilatus and Fabrice ‘Fab’ Morvan, who became friends during their youth in Germany.

With Rob coming from a broken home and Fab having left an abusive household, they shared a similar upbringing and future goal: to become famous superstars.

Within a few years, their collective dream came true. As the faces of Milli Vanilli - a group created by producer Frank Farian, previously behind Boney M - they stormed the charts across the globe.

In 1989 their first album went platinum six times in the USA, and the hit song Girl You Know It’s True sold more than 30 million singles worldwide.

Milli Vanilli became the world’s most popular pop duo in 1990 and won the Grammy for Best New Artist.

But their ascension to success came with a devastating price that ultimately led to their infamous undoing.

Don’t Miss

The House of Mirth, 1.10am, Film 4

Following the recent death of English filmmaker Terence Davies, here’s his heartbreaking 2011 drama, based on the novel by Edith Wharton, starring Gillian Anderson, Eric Stoltz and Dan Aykroyd.

Anderson plays Lily, a spirited woman in 1920s’ New York who dreams of marrying a wealthy man.

Her desire for riches leads her to ignore her feelings for a poverty-stricken friend, and instead embarks on a tour of high society - but the whispers of another woman make her a pariah.

Arena, 11.40pm, BBC Four

A welcome repeat of this 2000 Arena special, subtitled Wisconsin Death Trip.

It’s a documentary visiting the small town of Black River Falls, and examining sinister events that occurred there.

The programme takes early 20th-century photographs as its starting point, and uncovers a chilling story that took place in this seemingly respectable community.

Titane, 10.50pm, Film4

This Palme d’Or winner from 2016 that owes a lot to David Cronenberg’s highly controversial Crash.

Hardly surmising then that the French sci-fi/horror movie is pretty much out there and not for everyone.

Agatha Rousselle plays Alexia, a young dancer with a plate in her head who murders a fan, then gets impregnated by a car (see? I told you it's not for everyone), then poses as a long-missing son of a fire chief.

New or Returning Shows

100 bliain de thithíocht - Géarchéim gan deireadh, 9.30pm, TG4

Here’s a documentary that explores Ireland's ongoing housing crisis.

From the flats of the '30s to the high-rise of the '60s, this film explores the ideas that worked and the ones that were disastrous, painting a picture of what went so wrong and how it may be fixed.

The Twelve, 10.50pm, TG4

Here’s what apparently a very watchable Australian courtroom drama about the secret lives of jury members.

Sam Neill stars, so that’s one very good reason for giving it a look.

As for the story, well, after being selected for the jury, a juror is caught in a web of lies with her husband.

The accused, Kate Lawson, is painted as a fiend by the prosecution and a loving aunt by her defence. But what will the jury believe?

Location, Location, Location, 8.00pm, Channel 4

Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer (below) return for yet another run of their show about people trying to get the keys to their dream home.

First up, two young families ask for Kirstie and Phil's help finding a new home in Devon.

Natalie and Glen feel they've been priced out of their popular local market and single mum Amy is looking for a seaside idyll for her and her two young children.

New to Stream

What We Do in the Shadows, Disney+

It’s back! Fans will know that this comedy is based on the feature film of the same name, but relocated to New York.

It documents the exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world.

They are housed on Staten Island and get by with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), and their vampire bureaucrat acquaintance, The Guide (Kristen Schaal).

In season five, Nandor feels Guillermo slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo, whose skills as a gentleman scientist are put to the test as he tries to solve the mystery of the strange and very secret changes Guillermo is going through.

Nadja, suffering the effects of a previously-undiagnosed supernatural hex, reconnects with her family from the Old Country.

Meanwhile, Colin pursues the path of so many energy vampires before him by running for political office and The Guide tries to figure out where she fits in as the relative newcomer to this tightly-knit group.

Life on Our Planet, Netflix

This is a new documentary series that details the stories of various species' struggles to survive on planet Earth.

The show will debut prehistoric predators and ancient creatures that once lived on Earth. The eight-part series was produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and is narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Today there are 20 million species on our planet, yet what we see is just a snapshot in time as 99 per cent of earth's inhabitants didn’t make it this far.

The series uses the latest technology and science to bring long extinct creatures back to life. So expect strong visuals from the start.

Ending Today

The teams face set out on the final leg to reach the finish line in the Norwegian city of Tromsø.
