New Dublin-based indie rock band Trinkets have released their double A-side single, Playing it Shy and Juniper. We asked lead singer Rosie Spiro the BIG questions . . .

Speaking about the new tracks, the band says "Playing It Shy is a song we didn't know we needed. When discussing what our next release should be, we had a group of well-loved songs to choose from.

"Some were a little darker, a little more experimental, and some pretty whimsical tunes there too. But in a kind of 'when you least expect it' moment, we started jamming to an instrumental demo that Ben had written, and then it hit us, upbeat synthy pop song!

"We like to feel good, we like to dance and we like to laugh, we also like to be a bit moody about the world we live in. We think the song captures that feeling and we want the people that hear us feel that too.

"Nothing too inaccessible, just a bit of fun that folks can relate to, it just felt like a cool next step (and who doesn't love a cheesy solo?)"

"Juniper is unlike anything we've released before. The bright and whimsical instrumentation is paired with lyrics that twist and turn and bring the listener on a journey.

"When writing lyrics Rosie wanted to capture the feelings of self-discovery, exploration, and how living in a once very Catholic society has impacted how we perceive ourselves."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I was originally born in England and moved over to this wonderful island when I was just a little baby. I wrote and uploaded my first ever full song on YouTube when I was 15 after I was inspired by Orla Gartland. Only to realise a few months later how truly awful it was. I like to think I'm a little better at songwriting now. I am an absolute Goodreads fanatic. If you see me on my phone, I'm not on Instagram or TikTok. I'm reading book reviews and deciding what my next read should be.

How would you describe your music?

The music I make with Trinkets is the soundtrack to your quarter life crisis. With fun edgy guitar lines and hypnotic 80s synth lines.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Radiohead, Kate Bush, Glass Animals, Pillow Queens, and Nick Cave, to name a few.

What was the first gig you ever attended?

Admittedly, I was a big emo when I was younger, so the first gig I ever went to see was You Me at Six for my birthday with a friend from school in The Olympia in Dublin and it was amazing.

What was the first record you ever bought/streamed?

Elvis Presley's All-time Greatest Hits.

What is your favourite song right now?

Didn't Care by Slyvan Esso is something I can't stop listening to recently.

What is your favourite lyric of all time?

This honestly changes all the time. There are so many amazing lyricists out there that it's hard to choose one, but this line from Nick Cave's Jubilee Street will always be a favourite. It's so simplistic but says so much. I love lyrics that can do that. "I got love in my tummy and a tiny little pain And a ten-ton catastrophe on a sixty-pound chain."

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That's such a hard question, but I'd probably go with Strange Overtones by David Byrne. There's so many quirky lyrics and little instrumental layers that it would keep me entertained for a super long time.

Where can people find more info about you and your music?

They can find our music on all streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music and all social media but Instagram is our main one at the moment.
