Comedian and former Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson has revealed his plan to get rich from buying and selling VHS tapes.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in the US, Davidson told host Fallon that three years ago, he purchased between 3,000 and 5,000 unopened VHS tape, in the hope that their value would increase hugely in 2026 as that year marks 20 years since the last VHS tapes were made.

Explaining his rationale, he said, "So 20 years go by... that's enough time for people to be like, 'Oh, that was cool. Remember?' Like vinyl."

He continued, "So I bought all the sealed ones that exist, like 3,000 to 5,000 tapes."

Fallon showed photos of the packages arriving to Davidson's assistant's house, while both he and the audience laughed at the relevation.

Davidson then said his plan is working, saying "So as of a month ago, sealed VHSs are now going for like 20 or 30 grand a pop.

"Rocky just sold for $27,000 (€25,500). No-one believed in me!" he joked.

"If it doesn't work, I’m gonna be on the road forever," he said.

During the interview, Davidson also spoke about returning to Saturday Night Live as a host this weekend and turning 30 next month.

Davidson, who famously dated pop star Ariana Grande, was raised on Staten Island in New York City. When he was seven years old, his father died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks while working on shift as an N.Y.C. firefighter.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon returned to screens a week ago, after a five-month hiatus caused by the writers' and actors' strike.

During the break, Fallon and and four other US talk show hosts began an online podcast called Strike Force Five.

Proceeds from the show went toward supporting writers whose income was affected by the strike.
