Actor Kelsey Grammer has said his love for Fraiser is "very sweet" and that he is "very grateful" that the show is returning 20 years after the original series ended.

The hit US comedy first aired from 1993 - 2004 and was loved by TV audiences the world over.

The new series catches up with the beloved psychiatrist who has relocated from Seattle to Boston in an attempt to get close to his son, Frederick 'Freddy' Crane, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott.

The Emmy-winning actor will be the only original cast member in the reboot. There will be guest appearances from Peri Gilpin as Roz and Bebe Neuwirth as Dr Lilith Sternin.

Speaking ahead of the recording of the new series an emotional Grammer said: "My love for this character is very sweet.

"I'm delighted you're here. I can't tell you how grateful I am that you're here and how grateful we are that we have a chance to do this for you again.

"I am very excited about what we're doing, this new group of people that you can fall in love with and get to know. We've been working so hard at this thing and it's been quite a while, and I think we've done something quite lovely."

New cast members include Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst, Castle actress Toks Olagundoye, Workin' Moms actress Jess Salgueiro, and newcomer Anders Keith.

The new series premieres on 13 October on Paramount+.
