There are plenty of action-packed films, binge-worthy TV series and romcoms landing on streaming services this month - plus lots to hit the spooky spot in the run-up to Halloween. Nicolette Lennox takes a look.

Set in London, this fearless, frank and provocative series centers on Arabella (Michaela Coel), a carefree, self-assured Londoner with a group of great friends, a boyfriend in Italy, and a burgeoning writing career. But when she is spiked with a date-rape drug, Arabella must question and rebuild every element of her life.

Lessons in Chemistry – Season 1, 13 October, Apple TV

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, this drama series is set in the 1950s and follows the life of Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is thwarted by the view that a woman's place is in the home... but what if she swaps the laboratory for her kitchen.

The Fall of the House of Usher, 12 October, Netflix

A mini-series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe - its based on the short story, a work of Gothic fiction, and includes themes of madness, family, isolation, and metaphysical identities. The perfect mix to fulfil a mild Halloween horror fix.

The Lions Of Sicily, 25 October, Disney

The Lions Of Sicily

This eight-part historical drama series follows the Florio family as brothers Paolo and Ignazio, two small spice merchants in the 1800s, escape from Calabria to Sicily, open a run-down shop and transform it into an economic empire.

Loki, Season 2, October 5, Disney


The team from the Time Variance Authority (TVA) will help you get your Marvel fix as they navigate the multiverse in order to find Sylvie, Ravonna Renslayer, and Miss Minutes - starring Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson.

Totally Killer, 6 October, Prime Video

35 years after the shocking murder of three teens, the infamous "Sweet Sixteen Killer" returns on Halloween night to claim a fourth victim. 17-year-old Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) ignores her overprotective mom's (Julie Bowen) warning and comes face to face with the masked maniac.

Killers of the Flower Moon, 20 October, Apple TV

Based on David Grann's non-fiction book detailing the FBI's investigation into the Osage Indian murders in 1920s Oklahoma. Oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation and they became some of the richest people in the world overnight. This epic western crime drama from Martin Scorsese has a star-studded cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, and Lily Gladstone

Pain Hustlers, 27 October, Netflix

Emily Blunt plays a high school dropout who lands a job in a pharmaceutical company in Florida, to get embroiled in a criminal conspiracy.

The Burial, 13 October, Prime Video

A lawyer (Denzel Washington) and a funeral home owner (Tommy Lee Jones) try to save a family business exposing a complex web of race, power, and injustice.

Haunted Mansion, 4 October, Apple TV

A single mom named Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest and a historian to help exorcise her newly bought mansion after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts.
