Vernie Bennett, a member of 90s pop group Eternal, has spoken out in the wake of controversy surrounding the band's planned reunion tour.

Earlier this week, the agent of Bennett's bandmate Louise Redknapp claimed that the four band members have fallen out about performing "at Pride shows or LGBTQ+ festivals".

A statement issued by talent agent Simon Jones claimed that band members and sisters Vernie and Easther Bennett believe that "the gay community [is] being hijacked by the trans community", and that they do not support this and would not perform at such events.

On Tuesday, Bennett posted a photo of the cover of the Spanish version of their 2000 track Free to Live on Instagram. The photo shows her and sister Easther, who were the only members remaining in the band at that point.

Captioning the post, she wrote, "I am 'Eternally' grateful for the family, friends & amazing fans who have and continue to support our incredible journey & artistry.

"I've been blessed to connect with so many diverse & wonderful people from all walks of life during my career. You all have a piece of my heart."

Addressing the well-publicised spat, Bennett said, "Though it is impossible & counterproductive to respond to the overwhelming number of statements & allegations made online recently; I place this moment in God's hands.

"I truly appreciate all who continue to express love & support for my family & Eternal. xoxo - Vernie."

The singer said it was "impossible" and "counterproductive" to "respond to the overwhelming number of statements and allegations made online recently"

The 90s girl group had a string of hits including I Wanna Be The Only One, Just A Step From Heaven and Power Of A Woman. Their debut single Stay was released 30 years ago last week.
