Baz Ashmawy has recalled the time he won an Emmy award - and celebrated with his mam by getting stuck into some chicken wings.

The TV presenter - who will host new game RTÉ show The Money List - was one of the celebrity guests on Friday night's Late Late Show, along with James Nesbitt and Vogue Williams.

Host Patrick Kielty was impressed by the fact that Baz had won an Emmy back in 2015 for his TV series 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy, which he starred in with his mother Nancy.

"It was for best scripted . . . I was the most ungraceful [winner]," Baz recalled, doing fist-pumps and gritted teeth like he'd scored a late winner in a cup final.

"And it was my mum’s first time in New York. Then afterwards I asked her if she wanted to go to the after party, and she was like, 'We’ll just to a bar and have chicken wings.’

"So I rang an Irish bar in New York and they thought I was taking the mickey. We just arrived in with the Emmy, had chicken wings and pints."

As for his upcoming new show, The Money List, the title drew a wry remark from Patrick Kielty.

"Sounds like something you'd want to stay off in RTÉ," he said, with his tongue firmly embedded in his cheek.

Baz didn't bite, and instead praised the contestants on his show - and Irish people in general.

"The best thing about doing a game show in Ireland - I was offered a few before and I’ve done a few in the UK - for all the reasons Irish people should never be on TV, is all the reasons they should be on TV.

"They just make it. They’re cracked! And it’s very competitive. I basically will have a list. It could be flavours of crisps.

Pointing at Patrick Kielty, he added: "I'll put you in a soundproof booth with a stranger, and I’ll put Jimmy [Nesbitt] in another booth with a stranger, and you have to guess how many names you’ll come up with. It gets tetchy. You could win a lot of cash."

After a clip, Baz added: "What I like about it is - and one of the reasons why I did Mammy, originally - I like stuff that you can see with your granny, and your kids, and everyone’s a little bit of an expert. Everyone gets very animated and I love it."
