Schitt's Creek star Noah Reid is swapping TV studios for live music venues as he kicks off his The Everything's Fine world tour in Dublin tonight.

If you are a fan of Schitt's Creek then you will know that Noah Reid played Patrick, the partner of Dan Levy's David, on the multi-award-winning show.

Since the show ended, and in between Covid and the writers' strike, Reid, has been exercising his musical side - like many other actors such as Jared Leto, Kevin Bacon and Zooey Deschanel.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment Reid said: "I released two records during the pandemic and haven't really had very much opportunity to play these songs live.

"It just felt like it was something I wanted to do now and to prioritize that in this moment felt right perfectly," the Hold On singer added.

"For all intents and purposes, Dublin is the first show on The Everything's Fine tour, and yeah very cool, very cool place to start. I always love this city and it's got a great musical culture, so it feels like the right spot to start."

It's not long before the topic of Schitt's Creek comes up, and Reid, who is married to fellow actor Clare Stone, explained that as a straight man playing a gay character he "didn't want to be pretending to be anything that I'm not, I didn't want to be playing a character in a way that was suggesting something that was untrue.

He continued: "I felt like where I could approach this character from was a place of like, what if this character is me and I fall in love with this other character?

"I think that's the thing, that that's incredibly universal and I think the fact that Patrick, as a human being never having been with a man, and never been attracted to a man (before), it was as much of an exploration for Patrick, as it was for me as an actor, so that lined up in an interesting way."

Schitt's Creek cast: David Rose (Eugene Levy), Moira Rose (Catherine O Hara), David Rose (David Levy), Patrick Brewer (Noah Reid), Stevie Budd (Emily Hampshire) and Alexis Rose (Annie Murphy)

When asked if there were any chances of some more Schitt's Creek Reid said: "Gosh I don't know, I mean I literally have zero information on that and right now, of course, we're in the middle of a strike which makes it hard to imagine that anything is coming down the pipe.

"But you know I think it's it's been a brilliant chapter in my life and if there's anything to come from it further, that would be exciting - I'm sure to more than just me,

"It was great fun, yeah the cast was exceptionally funny. I knew that it was not my job to provide the laughs when hanging out with that group.

"I could just sort of enjoy myself, sit back and you know, let them do what they do and it was such a brilliant group of artists. It's a beautiful thing and they've all been incredibly supportive of my music career too, they've come out to shows of mine."

Speaking about his excitement before the concert he said: "I released two records during the pandemic and haven't really had very much opportunity to play these songs live so most of the songs are original.

"It's really awesome, I mean when you're recording in the studio, you're finding the arrangements and you're kind of like you're moving pretty quickly through.

"And when you get the opportunity to play shows in a row and you're working through with the band night after night, you really have to be able to stand behind the songs.

"And also the things you've written, you kind of reinvestigate them in an interesting way and I'm really looking forward to doing that over the next few months."

Noah Reid plays The Academy in Dublin, Friday 15 September
