Late Late Show releases new trailer ahead of 15 September return

The Late Late Show has released a new trailer ahead of Patrick Kielty's debut as host.

Kielty begins his tenure on Friday 15 September on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player at 9:35pm.

Earlier this week, the countdown to The Late Late Toy Show began as applications opened.

"Many moons ago in Dundrum, Co Down, this cheeky monkey had a Christmas jumper, a John Denver haircut, and a dream," said host Kielty. "But never in his wildest did he think that one day, he'd host The Late Late Toy Show."

Speaking in May when he was announced as the new Late Late Show host, Kielty said he was "absolutely thrilled" to take on the job.

"To follow in the footsteps of Gay, Pat and Ryan as the next custodian is a real honour and I can't thank RTÉ enough for giving me the chance to be a part of the next chapter of such an iconic show," he continued.

"I'm also genuinely humbled to become part of Friday nights for so many Irish people, at home and around the world. I can't wait to get started on one of the greatest jobs in television."

Kielty began his stand-up career as host of Northern Ireland's first comedy club, The Empire Laughs Back, in Belfast.

Since then, he has built a career across TV and radio, and live stand-up tours.

His BAFTA-nominated My Dad, The Peace Deal and Me saw him named UK documentary host of the year at the 2018 Grierson Awards.

His most recent programme, Patrick Kielty: One Hundred Years of Union, also won a Royal Television Society award.

September also sees the release of his first feature film, Ballywalter, where he stars alongside the IFTA-nominated Seána Kerslake.

The film, directed by Prasanna Puwanarajah and written by Stacey Gregg, opens on Friday 22 September.
