Ireland's Lankum vie for Mercury Prize tonight

Irish folk act Lankum are among the nominees for the 2023 Mercury Prize album of the year award in London tonight.

The band are shortlisted for their fourth album, 2023's False Lankum.

It is the first time Lankum have been nominated for the UK-based award, which honours music from the UK and Ireland.

Arctic Monkeys, Raye, and Fred Again.. are among the other nominees this year.

Radio DJ and broadcaster Lauren Laverne is to host the ceremony at the Eventim Apollo in London's Hammersmith, which will feature live performances from 10 of the dozen shortlisted artists including Lankum.

On television, BBC Four will broadcast the ceremony from 9pm to 10:15pm, with coverage beginning on digital station BBC Radio 6 Music from 7pm.

Arctic Monkeys and Fred Again.. are both on tour in September and will not be attending the ceremony, but a live performance film will be shown to celebrate their albums.

Previous winners of the Mercury Prize include Arctic Monkeys, Michael Kiwanuka, PJ Harvey, Elbow, Roni Size & Reprazent, Pulp, Suede, and Primal Scream.
