Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal turn up the tension in Foe trailer

The full trailer for the Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal-starring sci-fi thriller Foe has been released ahead of its arrival in cinemas in October.

Directed by Garth Davis (Lion, Top of the Lake), Foe is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Iain Reid, with Reid and Davis co-writing the screenplay.

The synopsis of Foe reads: "Academy Award nominees Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal star in Foe, a haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain world.

Foe is due for release in Ireland on Friday 20 October

"Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior's family for generations, but their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger (Aaron Pierre) shows up at their door with a startling proposal."

The makers of the film add that its "mesmerising imagery and persistent questions about the nature of humanity (and artificial humanity) bring the not-too-distant future to luminous life".

Foe is due for release in Ireland on Friday 20 October.
